Tour Overview

This 10-day Manang Mustang Motorbike Tour is designed for riders who want to experience two contrasting Himalayan regions in one powerful riding adventure. The route first follows the Marsyangdi Valley toward Manang, where green valleys, pine forests, Buddhist settlements, dramatic cliffs and glacial views create a classic Annapurna riding experience. The journey then turns toward Pokhara and continues into the Kali Gandaki corridor, leading to the apple village of Marpha, the windy town of Jomsom, the ancient village of Kagbeni and the sacred temple of Muktinath.

The tour combines paved highway sections, rough mountain roads, gravel tracks, riverside trails, dusty ridges, suspension bridges and high-altitude village routes. It is suitable for riders with basic to moderate mountain riding experience who are comfortable with long riding days, steady group riding and changing road conditions.

Gateway Adventure manages the route, permit support, accommodation coordination, motorbike arrangements, safety briefing and optional backup vehicle service. The focus is not only reaching Manang and Mustang, but enjoying the entire Himalayan ride with confidence, enough time for local food, photography, culture and rest stops.

Manang Mustang Bike Ride Tour Highlights

  • Ride through two of Nepal's most dramatic Himalayan regions, Manang and Mustang, in one adventurous motorbike journey.
  • Experience a rare combination of green river valleys, pine forests, dry cliffs, glacial landscapes and desert-like Himalayan terrain.
  • Follow sections of the Annapurna Circuit route through Besisahar, Jagat, Chame, Pisang and Manang.
  • Visit Gangapurna Lake in Manang, located below Gangapurna Peak and its hanging glacier.

  • Relax in Pokhara beside Phewa Lake before entering the second mountain section toward Mustang.
  • Ride through Beni, Tatopani, Rupse Waterfall, Ghasa, Lete and Kalopani along the Kali Gandaki corridor.
  • Visit Marpha, the famous apple village of Mustang, known for stone lanes, whitewashed houses and Thakali culture.
  • Explore Jomsom and Kagbeni, two iconic settlements on the way to Upper Mustang and Muktinath.

  • Ride through the legendary Kali Gandaki Gorge between the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.
  • Experience Gurung, Manangi, Thakali and Tibetan-influenced culture along the route.
  • End the ride with the peaceful hilltop atmosphere of Bandipur before returning to Kathmandu.
  • Ideal for riders seeking adventure, culture, pilgrimage, mountain scenery and challenging Himalayan roads.

Why This Manang Mustang Ride Is Special

Most motorcycle tours focus on either Manang or Mustang as separate riding programs. This itinerary combines both regions into a single 10-day experience, giving riders a deeper sense of Nepal's mountain diversity. Within one journey, riders move from Kathmandu's urban road network to Lamjung's river valley, Manang's high alpine villages, Pokhara's lakeside calm, Mustang's dry Himalayan corridor and Bandipur's old Newari charm.

The ride is adventurous but not rushed. Each day is planned to balance riding time, road conditions, altitude, rest, sightseeing and cultural stops. The route is especially rewarding for riders who enjoy technical mountain riding without crossing extreme high passes.

The Riding Experience

This tour is best described as a moderate Himalayan motorbike adventure. The route includes city traffic, paved highways, hill roads, gravel sections, rocky tracks, dust, narrow corners, seasonal mud, water crossings and changing mountain weather. The Manang and Mustang sections can be demanding, especially after rainfall, road construction or landslides.

Riders should focus on control rather than speed. Low-speed balance, safe braking, clutch control, careful cornering and patience are essential. The support team will brief riders daily and adjust the schedule when road or weather conditions require flexibility.

Depending on the selected package, support arrangements may include a road captain, guide, mechanic and backup jeep. A backup vehicle is recommended for private groups, luggage support, added safety and rider comfort.

Note: The standard Manang Mustang route requires the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit, ACAP. Permit checking may take place at checkpoints along the route.

Motorbike Requirements and Recommendations

Which Bike to Choose: Royal Enfield Himalayan or Honda CRF 250?

The Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 or 450 and Honda CRF 250 are both suitable options for this Manang Mustang Bike Ride Tour. The Himalayan is known for stability, comfort and durability on long mixed-terrain rides. It is a good choice for riders who prefer a steady machine for gravel roads, rough tracks and long travel days.

The Honda CRF 250 is lighter and more agile, making it attractive for riders who prefer better handling on technical rough sections. It is subject to availability and may be offered as an upgrade depending on the final package.

  • Recommended: reliable adventure, dual-sport or standard touring motorcycle suitable for mixed Himalayan terrain.
  • Not recommended: heavy street touring bikes, low-clearance bikes or large adventure bikes that are difficult to manage on rough and narrow sections.
  • Fuel planning: fuel is available in major towns, but riders should refuel whenever possible, especially before entering higher or remote sections.
  • Basic spare parts, repair tool kit and mechanic support may be arranged depending on the selected package and group size.

Recommended Riding Profile

  • Comfortable riding 5 to 8 hours per day.
  • Basic mountain road and gravel riding experience.
  • Good clutch, brake and balance control at low speed.
  • Confidence on uphill and downhill sections.
  • Ability to follow guide instructions and maintain safe group distance.
  • Moderate fitness for long riding days, dust, wind and altitude.

Altitude Sickness, AMS and Acclimatization

Every mountain journey carries some risk of Acute Mountain Sickness, AMS. The risk is lower than high-pass trekking because this itinerary stays below around 4,000 meters, but riders may still feel mild discomfort because the route gains altitude quickly and the climate becomes dry and cold in the higher areas.

Common symptoms may include headache, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, poor sleep or loss of appetite. Early recognition is important. Riders should drink enough water, avoid unnecessary alcohol, eat well, sleep properly and communicate with the guide if symptoms appear. Medicine such as Diamox should be used only after medical advice.

The guide will monitor rider condition and adjust pace or route decisions when needed. Safety always comes before schedule completion.

Accommodation and Meals

In Kathmandu and Pokhara, accommodation is arranged in selected hotels on a twin-sharing or single-room basis depending on the final quotation. In Manang, Mustang and Bandipur sections, riders stay in the best available lodges, guesthouses or teahouses along the route.

Mountain lodges are simple but practical. Rooms usually include twin beds, blankets and basic facilities. Attached bathrooms and hot showers may not be available everywhere, and hot showers may cost extra in some lodges.

Meals usually include Nepali, Thakali, Tibetan, Indian and simple continental options. Common choices include Dal Bhat, Thakali set, noodles, fried rice, momo, soup, potatoes, eggs, Tibetan bread, pasta, tea and coffee.

Safety and Support

Safety is managed through route briefing, controlled riding pace, experienced local guidance and practical support arrangements. Road conditions in Manang and Mustang change frequently because of rain, snow, landslides, construction, dust and seasonal river flow.

  • Daily route briefing before departure.
  • Experienced guide or road leader familiar with the Manang and Mustang route.
  • Mechanic support or technical support arrangement as per package.
  • Backup vehicle available when included in the package or purchased as an add-on.
  • Basic first aid kit carried by the support team.
  • Emergency coordination support in case of illness, accident, road blockage or itinerary change.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is required for this tour. The policy should cover motorbike riding, medical treatment, accident expenses, emergency evacuation, rescue coordination, high-altitude travel up to around 4,000 meters and trip interruption.

Riders should confirm with their insurance provider that off-road or adventure motorbike touring is not excluded. Policies vary, so this confirmation should be completed before traveling to Nepal.
